Luckily for Mike, the lock down for the spreading corona virus has the benefit of taking away other commitments and allows some focus on setting up the new studio. The brown beige walls in the dark studio do need removing from the old kitchen space to reflect as much light as possible.
The broken tiles remind of the unpredictable winter its been in so many ways and the culmination in the chaos of Covid 19. To think its just a fat covered protein, it doesn’t even live. The pock marked walls a memorial to the destructive force of viral disease, the taking down of an old order, perhaps some of what may yet come in the social and economic world.
But there is a beauty in the abstract shapes and textures left after smashing the old tile wall. Perhaps an opportunity to create an abstract work, a memorial to unusual times, in the rebirth of a new studio space, perhaps an opportunity to rebirth from some of our troubled times.
